For a short period in the late '60s, Fender used height-staggered Alnico 5s and a special grey bobbin to produce clear, transparent highs and thumping lows. The Custom '69 Stratocaster pickups are period correct, with enamel-coated coil wire and cloth pushback wire. Additionally, they include a reverse-wound, reverse-polarity (RWRP) middle pickup for hum-canceling operation.
